What began as a pilot programme with six London organisations has, in its second series, grown into a national network of 28 organisations through AREVA Writers’ Room II, responding to sector demand and now including partners from across England and Scotland.
The expanded cohort represents a broad cross-section of the visual arts and cultural ecology, spanning artist-led spaces, commissioning bodies, development agencies and learning-focused institutions. Participating organisations include A House for Artists, A Space Arts, Auto Italia, BEAF Arts, Camden Arts Centre, Creative Land Trust, CVAN Midlands, Eastside Projects, Freelands Foundation, Glasgow Sculpture Studios, Grand Union, ICF, MarketPlace Arts, Metrolands/Cinenova, New Contemporaries, Peckham Platform, Platform London, Raven Row, SPACE Studios, Staffordshire St, The Assembly, The Drawing Room, The Koppel Project, The Old Waterworks, TOMA, VASW, Wysing Arts Centre and YVAn.
The Writers’ Room develops collaborative processes grounded in shared values of reflection, care and critical exchange. The cohort has explored writing as a tool for connection, sense-making and resistance, foregrounding generosity, peer support and trust. A collective intention to co-produce common policies as open-access resources will be further developed and supported by CVAN London.
We extend our thanks to Camden Arts Centre for hosting the programme for a second year, and to all colleagues and organisations who participated. A public online sharing event will take place on 4 March, 11am–1pm, offering an opportunity to encounter the work and reflections emerging from the Writers’ Room.
